Claims Mohawk Mall was built in 1968 (planning began that year but ground was broken in 1969). Store fronts that have not changed since the requirement was put in place still had wood trim at that point. (Note: A wall of the Bradlees store facing the mall interior continued to have wood right up to demolition. No store ever occupied that space after Bradlees left in 1996. The mall still had wood beams on the ceilings painted white up to the end.)

Concerns were listed about safety for customers leaving late night movie showings. There was a suggestion to build a second story for the new theaters. However, the current structure would not support a second story and thus all the theaters would need to be demolished and rebuilt.

Flah's was headquartered at the time in Latham, operating seven (7) stores in the Capital Region and Hudson Valley. It was started in 1917. It was the final large family owned clothing store chain in the area. The sale had to be approved by stockholders. At the time McCurdy and Co. already bought two of their stores in Syracuse. The stores remaining will maintain the name Flah's but be under the company's B. Foreman group.
